Family Healthcare offers Department of Transportation (DOT) medical exams for commercial motor vehicle (CMV) drivers. If you operate a commercial vehicle, federal law requires a valid DOT Medical Examiner’s Certificate (MEC) to ensure you’re healthy enough to safely perform your job.

Our certified medical providers are trained to perform DOT physicals in compliance with Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) regulations.

What to Expect During Your DOT Physical

Your DOT exam will assess the following:

• Vision and hearing

• Blood pressure and pulse rate

• Urinalysis (for signs of underlying medical conditions like diabetes)

• General physical exam (checking the heart, lungs, spine, limbs, and neurological health)

Your provider will also review your medical history, including medications and any current or past health conditions that may affect your ability to drive safely.

What to Bring

Please bring the following to your appointment:

• A valid driver’s license or government-issued photo ID

• A list of current medications and dosages

• Your eyeglasses or hearing aids if you use them

• Any required medical documentation, such as:

  • CPAP compliance report (if you use one for sleep apnea)

  • Medical clearance letters for certain conditions

  • Recent test results or specialist notes if requested

After the Exam

If you meet all DOT health standards, you will receive your Medical Examiner’s Certificate, which is typically valid for up to 24 months. If certain conditions are found, your certificate may be issued for a shorter duration with follow-up requirements.
